“law mouse”

Definition:

Dictionary of Unusual Constitutional Terms:

law mouse

A n unconstitutional and sometimes anticonstitutional rodent which nibbles away at the Constitution while escaping detection by all the ordinary means placed at the disposal of a healthy administration of justice.  The law mouse is a social beast, who, when once exposed in his hiding place is often found to be in the company of numerous others of his own species.

The law knows of no ordinary procedure to detect this infamous rodent in the invisible holes and cracked recesses of the Constitutional edifice that are his natural habitat.  One must therefore have recourse to the one extraordinary remedy said to be effectual, which is:  the constitutional cat.
